Famous Last Words
Saw in the paper today in the "Random Kinds of Factness" section (I know, goofy name) that Union General John Sedgwick's last words before being felled by a Confederate sharpshooter were:
" What! Men dodging for single bullets? I am ashamed of you. They couldn't hit an elephant at this distance!"
And then there is the master of understatement Alexander Hamilton who after being shot by Burr in that famous duel said:
"This is a mortal wound, doctor"
There is some really good stuff on GeoCities Famous Last Words page: http://www.geocities.com/athens/acropolis/6537/index.htm
But Sedgwick definitely takes the cake.
