Random Rants... Catching Up
Good grief! I haven't posted since April????!!!! Okay, random rant and comment time then, buckle up this is gonna bounce all over the place:
Other than to be an idiot, why would a volunteer at an event for a local art gallery sponsored by one political party wear a T-Shirt bashing that party? Sources confide that this person does this at every event - he finds the most obnoxious shirt possible in counterpoint to whatever the sponsor stands for and that's what he wears. Even when asked not to. When asked last evening to change his shirt, he refused, cited free speech and convinced the organization that they would lose this volunteer if they pushed it. The VP of the Board caved since he is one of their best volunteers and the shirt stayed. Personally I wasn't offended since it made him look like the small minded moron that he apparently is.
Coordinating volunteers for a fun event that includes beer is a hell of a lot easier than coordinating them for an event that aims to cure cancer and doesn't serve beer. Something is not quite right about that.
Nice to see that the President can laugh at himself - the video by JibJab shown at the Radio and Television Correspondents dinner was hysterical and judging by the Prez' reaction he got a kick out of it too, especially the cigarette joke. Wonder if he's managed to quit smoking yet?
Mother Jones is a REALLY good magazine.
Speaking of idiots (first paragraph, stay with me here), there is one out West who seems to think that a local dance school's recitals should be more along the lines of Julliard than a local dance school. The person in question has been posting on a local newspaper's blog in response to their review that the performances are akin to watching people with ADHD dart about. Not only is that insensitive to any of the kids who actually have ADHD but has this ever actually been to a recital before? Continuity between "scenes" is not required. And hate to break to this person but hip hop, krunk, stepping etc. are all accepted dance forms now. It ain't all ballet and tap any more. This is one mean-spirited person with an axe to grind. Shame they are doing so in a public forum so the kids and their parents can see it.
Mayoral candidate shenanigans continue. One candidate seems unwilling to check the facts before shooting off mouth, which is common since 99% of the voting population don't fact-check either before they cast their vote. Oddly enough the local paper called the candidate out on it and pointed out that he has a habit of shooting off the mouth without data to back the comments up. But then again it is a libertarian paper and they hate politics in general.
Trying to grow a veggie garden without using sprays has proved difficult. Have resorted to "safe" products but am annoyed nonetheless.
Kitties are just as afraid of large thunderstorms in the middle of the night as dogs except they try to hide on you or under you (difficult in bed but apparently not impossible) instead of under the bed... vet avoidance is the preferred under the bed tactic.
Lots of rain equals lush flower beads and lawns and WAY too many bugs.
Locating a stone Japanese lantern for the garden became a multi-state endeavor and took a couple of months but I found one finally (in Indiana). And thank goodness it only cost $40! Not counting the gas money to run all over.
Okay this is long enough... more later.... stay tuned!
