Finally Sunshine and Warm Weather
It seems to have taken forever but at long last sunshine and warmth. We're running slightly ahead on rainfall for the month which explains the joy with which I greet the sun. It also explains the "lush" (i.e. gone crazy) plant life, most especially the weeds.
Flowers not normally "popping" yet have done so, the roses for example look more like June than May. The peonies are fabulous. However the catmint is looking yellowed from too much water. I guess you can't have everything.
The frogs in the park can be heard every night, louder than I've heard them in the 13 years on this street. Perhaps it is wet enough for some of them to have moved a little closer. No crickets yet but the frogs sure sound happy every night. Must be plenty of mosquitoes to snap up.
A small possum and his mama live under my deck, she may have moved on as I haven't seen her in a few days but he's beyond cute and so little! Yet large enough to be out of the pouch and ambling around on his own munching on slugs and bugs and other things that eat my plants, so he can stay.
At not quite 5 a.m. the birds typically have an awful lot to say which of course drives the cats nuts and I find annoying since the cat craziness wakes me up a good hour before the alarm. Well the younger ones are crazy, Bon doesn't get up but stays to snuggle and Lucky starts purring which is awfully loud for such a small kitty.
So many wonderful reasons to be outside at this time of year. Such a shame to have to be shut up in an office or even in a car all day instead, trying to cram outdoor "work" into already overbooked weekends and too short evenings. Hardly seems fair. How much more pleasant to spend the days outside in the fresh air and sunshine, to write, to read, to weed and tend... to enjoy a hammock or a willow tree. To not be a slave to the almighty dollar. The few hours snatched here and there are seldom enough and it all becomes work instead of joy.
Yet at 5 a.m. when the birds are so happy to greet the dawn, or at 9 p.m. when the frogs herald the night and the first stars and planets begin to glimmer even those few snatched up moments are well worth it.
