Is It Spring Yet? The Kitties Want to Know
The wind has picked up blowing the remaining fallen leaves passed the windows. Birds are in the trees being all "twittapated" and the cats have their noses pressed to the windows in rapt attention.
The three season porch (not aptly named it is more of a two and a half season porch really) is getting warmer in the afternoons causing rolling in sunbeams, "talking" to the birds, and crying to get outside. Honey for example is pawing at the windows and doors (especially when the dog next door is in view) and whining. Rumba keeps trying to make a break for any open door she sees. Bonsai doesn't seem to much care so long as there is sunbeam to bask in and Lucky, well she would like to bask in the sun but the young ones keep pouncing on her to coax her into playing which only serves to make her dash for the basement.
The snow comes and goes, can't seem to decide if winter is done yet or not. The first day of Spring (vernal equinox) is a little less than two weeks off so it IS out there somewhere but what the calendar says and what the weather actually does is very often two very different things.
This mama cat is itching to get outside too. The garden is far too wet to do anything with yet, even the raised beds aren't workable. The earth should have a chocolate cake type of texture before you actually try to work with it. Tempting though as the maples across the street have swelling buds on their branches. Somewhere under the left over leaves are daffodils poking their leaves up through the soil. Irises can't be too far behind.
Part of the itch is having gone to the Home Show and saw lots of landscaping ideas etc. Of specific interest is a $400 project of a fountain (bubbler really) - a large stone, drilled through so the water can bubble out of it. Very nice. Would like to rip up the wooden sidewalk as the stairs need replacing and the wood is rotting in places. Want to leave the railing. Wood is difficult to shovel and slippery when wet. May have looked nice once but a flagstone-ish walkway would look better. The magnolia tree needs to come down too, thinking a variegated dogwood would be a nice replacement. And the flowering plum that dear Sweetie is buried under is not well. Not sure it can be helped. Rose bushes need pruning before they start to bud.
So much to do for me. So many things to chase and play with for the cats.... we all want to know: is it Spring yet?
