Rain, Rain Go Away... NOW!!!

It is April in Ohio. This does mean rain, after all: April Showers Bring May Flowers. All I have to say is that there had damned well better be a HUGE flower show in the wings.

It is typical here to get around 2.5 inches of rain in April. So far we've had over 7 inches of the wet stuff. I am used to my back yard being under water in some places, and just "squishy" in others. It is 90% under water the rest is way more than "squishy". The front yard is "squishy". Consequently even if this stops falling from the sky God only knows when (if) I will be able to mow it.

And you MUST mow the lovely green stuff (and the weeds thank you) because of a few things:

  1. The neighbors appreciate it and I am the VP of the neighborhood association,
  2. The City's code enforcement people have rulers and they aren't afraid to use them and we are approaching the limited height,
  3. If it gets much taller the mower is not going to be able to cut it, and
  4. I do not have a hay baler.
The willow tree is extremely happy. If the lovely thing could dance about waving her roots in the air, she would. The reason I planted this lovely thing is because that part of the yard typically becomes a bog when it rains and willows LOVE water. I think she's grown a foot in a month.

The other downside of all this water is the basement. When the water no longer has a place to go ground-wise it ends up in the basement. Which leads to mold if I don't move fast enough. Which leads to asthma overload. Oh joy.

And then there is the hair. 99% of the time humidity has little effect. This much for this long and my hair looks like Hermione Granger's in the first Harry Potter movie. Tons of fun.

The cats want to go out in the yard with me, but hate wet paws. Oh yeah and the fleas are happily breeding out there along with the mosquitoes.

Upside? The frogs are already singing, things do look lush... but they'd look better in sunlight. And for those of us with low vitamin D in our systems the sunlight is kind of important.

So I think the May flowers have enough water built up. The rain barrel is overflowing. Please... sing it with me now: Rain, rain go away come again some other day... like, say July.
