It May Be Weird But I Enjoy It; A Crazy Life

This life is crazy.

By that I mean as a species human beings are both exasperating and enchanting at the same time; and yet we are also stupid and intelligent as well; oh and then we turn about and TA DA! we are suddenly both good and evil. Makes a spiritual person wonder what God was thinking when He decided oh what the heck let's create "Man"...

In my job I see all sorts of bad or just plain stupid behavior, and lately I am seeing a lot of flat out vindictive lying. Why the hell would you set out to destroy an organization you used to work for out of spite? How does it benefit you to bankrupt your former employer? One whose mission is to help the less fortunate? How does it benefit you to lie in court? To lie in charges filed through various regulatory agencies? It just boggles my mind.

Your actions (or inaction) caused you to be removed from your job. Own it for cryin out loud. Grow from the mistake and move on. Be a mature person. You are not entitled to a job, you aren't guaranteed employment for life. You EARN a paycheck, a job, a promotion. The word "earn" implies merit ... not entitlement. Four words I have for you:

GROW THE HELL UP

In my job I analyze behavior. I investigate accusations of bad behavior. I don't always find in favor of the employer; sometimes the employer screws up too. But 9 times out of 10 it is the employee who does something stupid and makes me want to slap them upside the head and say "what the hell were you thinking?". Watching porn at work is NOT okay (for example); taking employer supplies, equipment or cash is NOT okay. Yelling at your supervisor is NOT okay. Being late every day is NOT okay. The list is endless.

The list of employee-centric agencies through which the disgruntled can file issues of complaint is also apparently endless. And once that list is exhausted there is always court. Again I say, it boggles the mind.

It is kind of fun though. To work with lawyers who get fired up with righteous indignation on behalf of the clients is humorous, delightful and very satisfying. Today the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) was on the receiving end of said  indignation. I almost feel sorry for them ... almost.

Add to all of that the nonprofit work I do and not a week goes by that I don't find myself amazed by human behavior - for good or ill. I see the good at the schools and the humane society; I see good in the supervisor who goes above and beyond ... it is out there. Mostly though my day job is to root out the bad and remind people that actions have consequences. It may be weird but I enjoy it. Hey, it's a living.
