Another Day Another Argument with the ISP
Okay, so we have to have a high speed connection to work from home. That's cool. Makes perfect sense. There is one tiny problem though...
My personal computer will not "talk to" the ISP. Nope. One long headache of "Page Not Found" or even "Server Not Found".
So I contact tech support, after all the salesfolk told me that my little ole Dell running Windows 98SE would be fine. Nope. The lovely tech twits tell me that there is obviously something wrong with my network card. Now this is the same network card that has worked perfectly for years. Oh yeah and I need to upgrade my operating system. Hello! Your literate says Windows 98SE is compatible.
Guess what kids, the company is not going to reimburse me for any of that nonsense. And why should they? This is my PERSONAL computer we are talking about. So hey I can understand their perspective. However....
I wouldn't have upgraded to a cable ISP if I didn't have to for the job. Those crooks already get too much of my money for basic cable (the joys of a no competition area). Oh yeah there is a stipend to cover costs but guess what? It is income and income is taxed so by the time the IRS is finished with it the thing does not cover the costs. Not by a long shot. Again I understand that the company has to play by specific rules but come on! Can we investigate these things before we jump headlong into them? Call me crazy but I think that might have made a wee bit of sense. Oh yeah. Opps. It would have made sense... never mind.
I was not thrilled with dial up mind you but at least it flippin' worked! 100% of the time it worked. So I copied the emails between me and the tech folks and sent a copy to the tech guy at the company. We'll see what he has to say tomorrow. No doubt I will still be saying: ARGH!!!!
