And Here We Go... Kitten Craziness Day 1

Purrceval joined the household this afternoon at around 2:00 p.m. He did not have a nap until about 7:00 p.m. - has to be a record for kittens everywhere is certainly a record for kittens in this house. He still hasn't truly slept. It will be a long night methinks.

Bonzai is taking it well, minor hissing and one good bop has the little kit in line already. His survival instincts are better than Rumba's were at this age. Rumba still doesn't take anyone seriously when they hiss at her, or growl, or slash, or bop.... Purrcy on the other hand, knows when not to push it. At least so far.

Lucky is giving him a fairly wide berth after a couple of nose touches, actually he seems more afraid of her than she is annoyed by him. Which is amusing since she's the least threatening and similar in color to him and his mama (a gray tuxedo).

Honey hates him. But then Honey hates everyone. She's still not entirely thrilled with Rumba although they play together and on occasion sleep in a pile. She's growling like a demon (no, really I mean it - like a demon), snarling, hissing ... all mean and nasty and he is leaving her alone, so really all this bitching is just Honey being... well, Honey. The drama queen.

Rumba is very put out, not mean like Honey but confused, some hissing, a little growling but mostly seems confused. She will probably come around in a couple of days. He startled her earlier so now she's a little MORE hissy but so long as she has a safe place (the porch) she's okay. She's out there now. Bon is in the garage and the other two are in the basement.

Brag time: Purrcy already knows his name. Now granted I named him a few weeks ago when he was still at the shelter and they have been calling him that but still, it is a bit of a surprise. He has good manners/survival instincts as previously noted. Fortunately the water bottle will work on him (unlike Honey) but a sharp (ah!) is working well too. He gets out of sight in another room (he isn't allowed in all of them yet as there hasn't been time to really kitten-proof) , gets confused and calls for me. I answer and he comes running. He already understands when I pat the couch he's to jump up (Rumba still looks confused at that one, and she's two years old) and he gets the finger crooking "come here" gesture too. So the Siamese markings are I'm thinking more than cosmetic.

In case you missed the whole why "Purrceval" for a name thing - one reason is that he never quits purring, the other is that in the King Arthur legends Perceval was a rather precocious boy determined to go to Camelot and become a knight. His mother hadn't taught him about chivalry because it had led his father (a knight) to his death she thought and she didn't want that to happen to him. Well, he went to Camelot and became not only a knight but a Grail knight. So he grew up good.

Here's hoping this one does too. Assuming his big sister does kill him first... hmm, maybe I should have named him Arthur and started calling Honey Morganna...
