Kitten Craziness Day 2 - Purrcy Growls Back

Purrcy (as with all new kittens in the household) spent the night in the bathroom - bed, bowls, potty, toys all the essentials. Unlike every other new kitten he didn't cry this may be because after spending about a month in a two foot by three foot cage he's pretty used to confinement. He had to retire to the room a few times during the day today as I needed to get things done without him underfoot - the other four were enough to wrangle.

Today the little guy decided that he was going to growl back at the big kitties or growl first in some cases. So he puffed all up to his full size (not much bigger than my running shoe) and growled and hissed back at everyone bigger than he is. Lucky was most perplexed since she hadn't hissed at him at all but she gave him a wide berth. Honey got into an ever bigger snit and spent the majority of the day in the basement. Rumba puffed up right back and there was at least three hissing contests as a result most ending with Rumba backing down (keep in mind that Rumba is as tall and long and Bon although not as muscular, still she is a BIG girl). Bon returned growl but otherwise ignored the little puff ball. At several points during the day everyone except Honey was on the couch with me. As a comparison Rumba didn't get to that point with everyone for a couple of months.

There has been more napping today. More playing. More following me everywhere. And of course, more purring. A lot more purring. And the fact that all big kitties want to eat the baby food and the baby wants to eat the big kitty food. So all the dishes end up on the counter and no one can nibble all day as they would like. Which can make a kitty cranky. Oh and ice cubes are lots of fun to slap around the kitchen floor.

Purrcy has also decided that the coffee table (can you call it that when you never drink coffee nor serve coffee on it?) is his domain. He perches on it, hides in the baskets under it and generally can not go from point A to point B without taking a flying leap and sliding surfer style across it on a magazine.  It is the only thing he is ignoring the word "no" for... so far.

One flower pot hit the floor when he decided he really didn't want to look out the window. A couple of chips a lot of dirt every which way but nothing broken. In fact, so far he has zero interest in the out of doors. This is a good thing. A little odd, but good. He merely wants to be wherever I am for the moment. I know that won't last long but it is a little annoying as I'm afraid I'm going to step on him.

I may be allowing myself to be lulled into a false sense of security and with this next words I could jinx this horribly but... compared to Rumba's integration this is a piece of cake. Personality-wise Purrcy is far more laid back, cautious and sensible. Although the growling today may kick things up a notch tomorrow. And tomorrow he will have to stay in the bathroom while I'm at work so tomorrow evening ought to be interesting.  I plan to come home for lunch tomorrow but won't be able to on Tuesday or Wednesday. Hopefully the shelter experience will also help him deal with that, just wish there was a window in the bathroom. As he gets more confident who the heck knows what will happen. Stay tuned...
