Bugs. Bugs Everywhere. They Like Paint

Been trying to paint the garage door. Not going well.

Tiny little gnats with speckled wings apparently are attracted to the paint. They swarm. Bite me. Get into the paint. And are not bothered by bug spray. At all.

It has already taken 3 weekends to do a job that should have only taken one afternoon.

I hate bugs.

Why is it always about money? Why can't it be about caring, compassion, and/or need? Why does our society look at the ill and the elderly and say: you're on your own, deal with it? Why are caregivers looked down on and/or avoid as if we had the plague? As if our compassion were somehow contagious and that it would be a bad thing if someone were to catch it? Care facilities charge upwards of $5000 a year (plus add-ons) to care for our loved ones. Loved ones who had been paying maybe a grand total of $500 a month living on their own. When I worked in HR consulting there were care facilities I assisted. I know what they pay their people - let's not kid ourselves many of these places are out to make a profit. Sometimes I think they charge this much so that they can then turn around and bill Medicaid that much in a screw the government kind of way.And the sad thing is the administrators may not even be aware of it having convinced themselves that they are helping people. Bathroom Updaates Are Not For the Weak

I am presently a good 14 hours into a bathroom update (not counting the exhausted sleep of last night). This should have been a simple one day event. Nope. Not in this house. As some readers may know, anything troublesome in this house has its base in water. This project revealed another level of that problem. I ventured into the project with the idea of pulling up the old vinyl because, due to some odd staining, I believed there to be mold growing beneath it. The other simple part of the project was to replace an old, water-hogging toilet and faucet. The vinyl was stubborn and finally came up but left its felt backing stuck to the subfloor. Apparently someone had used what I like to call "adhesive-from-hell". So off to Lowe's to find an antidote to adhesive-from-hell. That accomplished the goo was applied. Banks and Corporate Political Advertising

Okay, in a country where we have the highest unemployment we've seen in a long time, folks who can't get loans for their small businesses let alone their homes and workers who are lucky to get any kind of raise this year ... we have a financial sector completely disconnected from reality. The massive banks dubbed "too big to fail" by the Bush Administration and the fools in Congress who followed them and giving raises and bonuses of head-shaking proportions. Bank of America is increasing salaries and bonuses by 31% for 2009 (over 2008 numbers) that's an average income for employees of $235,193. JP Morgan has increase salaries and bonuses by 22% for 2009 (over 2008 numbers) an average income of $378,600. Goldman Sachs takes the cake though with average income for 2009 after increases and bonuses of $498,246!!
