Ah... Politics

Well I suppose I should tear myself away from that exciting new reality show currently airing on several networks at once: the 2008 Presidential Race.

I admit it, I'm addicted.

Not that I have been voting in Presidential elections for eons but seriously when is the last time it was this much - dare I say it? - fun? Here we are with Super Tuesday behind us and we still have a race, nay a dogfight, ahead on the Democratic side and the Huckster isn't bowing out yet on the Republican side.

Heck, we could go all the way to the convention for a change and actually have it be a convention and not (sorry to borrow your phrase Huck but it is appropo) a corronation.

Not that I want decisions to be made in the back room by the so-called super delegates and the party officials but wouldn't it be cool to be a delegate and actually have passionate discussions with other delegates? Damn! I wanna be a delegate!! This would be fun!!!

Okay I work for people who are so Republican they ooze red state propoganda. They can't help it, they simply have a world view that is different than mine. A few are reasonable and moderate about it which I can respect but there are some who simply scare me. They don't think you can be a Democrate and actually be moderate. Everything is 100% black and white.

If you are poor it is your fault and you don't deserve "handouts", these folk are pissed that the stimulous package (and no, I'm not sure it'll work either) is going to give $300 to seniors and disabled vets. Yes I agree the disabled vets thing is political propoganda and the seniors thing may be too but when I look around at seniors and others who are struggling thanks to all the cutbacks and stupidness of the current administration I don't see the problem.

You see, there is social teaching in the Catholic Church going back to St Thomas Aquinas about compassion for the poor. This person with the 100% black or white vision who doesn't believe in handouts and thinks everyone should completely fend for themselves is Catholic. How does this jive?

Okay granted, I don't believe in abortion for myself but so long as it is the law of the land it needs to be upheld, work to change the law don't persecute those who abide by it and exercise their rights under it, those choices they have made are between them and God. You don't get to judge. Is that cherry-picking of a concern? I don't think so, I admit abortion is wrong. This person seems to think that poverty is self-induced 100% of the time. ARGH!! But I digress....

The writer's strike in Hollywood has gotten me addicted to the political hoo-ha. Hey, I have to blame somebody right? That's what we do in this society isn't it? Blame others?

Anyway, I am looking forward to watching the Obama/Clinton dogfight unfold. Pop that popcorn, warm up the recliner and enjoy the fights
